Victoria Bax's first blog for Nedz

Victoria Bax introduces her team to us in her first blog and looks forward to an exciting 2013...

"2013 is already proving to be prosperous year as well as we have managed to secure support from Nedz! Since trying the bedding I have seen my horses looking much more cosy and comfortable in their stables than before. They roll and lay down on a daily basis and the bed is very absorbent yet leaves a clean dry bed on top."

"I wanted to introduce you all to my team of four Ex-racehorses. I juggle re-training them alongside a full time job outside of the horsey world so life can get quite busy!"

"Crystal Ka (Crysto) is a 16.1hh, 11yr old, TB bay gelding. I bought him early in 2007 but sadly he fractured his splint bone in May of that year and ended up being operated on which ruled out any retraining until Christmas day of 2007. He has progressed his way up the BD and BE levels with may winnings and placings in tow. He is currently competing at Intermediate and 2* level with the aim of completing our first BE Advanced track in 2013."

"Popps Princess (Popps) is a 16.1hh, 11 yr old, TB mare. I bought her in late 2008. She has proved rather difficult in her retraining and is a very sensitive mare who seriously lacks confidence and trust. I have taken my time with her and worked alongside my physio and vet as in 2011 she was found to have 2 very close vertebrae which were restricting her movement and causing her some pain. She is now managed with treatment from both my physio and vet to keep her in tip top condition. She has been placed on a number of occasions at BE 90 and 100 level. She will start 2013 at BE 100 level with the hope of moving up to Novice and 1* level by the end of the season."

"Salto Angel (Salto) is a !6.3hh, 7 yr old, TB bay gelding. I bought Salto from the Ascot sales in January of 2010. By May of that year he had won Prelim dressage and in July competed in a 5 year old Burghley Young Event Horse Class. He progressed to BE90 however after a fall in the water whilst out xc schooling he has suffered some confidence loss, so we have taken our time working to strengthen him and rebuild his confidence. In the meantime Salto has been very successful on the BD circuit with placings and wins on nearly every outing, including breaking that 70% barrier! Hopefully Salto will return to the BE circuit this year depending on how I feel his confidence has improved."

"Nikki’s Revenge (Forrest) is a 16hh, 5 yr old TB bay gelding. Forrest arrived at my yard at the end of March 2012 with his current owner who bought him as a 2 yr old with the intentions of racing him, however after some training he was not deemed suitable to continue, so he has been sent to me to retrain and compete on the BE circuit. Forrest has already competed in dressage and showjumping with pleasing results so far. He is showing great promise both on the flat and over fences so he will hopefully start his BE campaign towards the middle of the season."

"Since the end of the Eventing season in 2012, the horses have had short break but have now been back in work for a little over 8 weeks. We are now focusing on improving our way of going in all spheres. Although to date we have not stepped foot onto a cross country course due to the weather, however we have had a play at home with a bit of technical arena style cross country including skinnies, rail, ditch, rail combinations, arrow heads and corners etc. Further to that we have already taken part in our first BE JAS event which includes a course of show jumps, followed straight on by a course of indoor cross country fences. Both Popps and Crysto jumped two very nice, but a little too keen rounds resulting in a pole rolling here and there. However, considering it was their first outing since the end of last season I was very pleased with their keenness. Here’s to a great year ahead!"
