Team King - Heading abroad

The highlight of each season is going to the bigger 3 day events. It was lovely to head off to Ligniere CCI in central France. Emily took Zara and Quin and I took Billy and Joey. What makes these trips even more fun is sharing transport with other riders, and in this case Daisy Berkley, India her groom and horse Cooper (Ballinteskin Cooper S) came with us.
We took Becca and Ellie to groom for us so it was a real 'girls on tour' trip!! This lovely event is based on a racecourse, so the horses were in permanent stables which were spacious and airy. The dressage and show jumping took place in a large all weather arena, and the XC started and finished on the racecourse, with the middle part of the course meandering out into the countryside. Daisy had a great event with 'Cooper' finishing 7th in his first CCI**. Emily and I both had mixed results. Billy had his first ever run out of his life at a small corner at fence 5...I was not amused. But Joey (Kings Ginger) went well in all 3 phases to finish 4th in the one star which was very pleasing.
I had applied for a place at the 7yr old 'World Champs' at Le Lions D'Angers CCI** in France with Bobby (King Robert). GB are only offered 10 places at this prestigious event and many riders apply to go. We were named as 2nd reserve, so I entered Bobby for Aldon OI which was the same weekend just incase there were no withdrawals. But to my delight I had a phone call from British Eventing just 3 days before having to leave saying that they had had 2 withdrawals and I could go...hurrah! What a special event Le Lion D’Angers is...again it is a fabulous venue, on a racecourse by the beautiful river Sarthe. Harry Meade, Jess his groom and Nell (Cavalier Crystal) travelled out with us, and we had such a fun trip...plenty of competitive card games and backgammon through the week!  Mum came as co driver (yes still driving my lorry at 81 yrs old!) and Emily groomed for me.
It is such an honour to ride at this event, and is even more special riding a homebred. Bobby put his best foot forward in the dressage and was lying 4th, I was so chuffed. Clear and in the time across country moved us up to 2nd, but sadly some show jumps down on the final day moved us out of the top ten. Disappointing, but I do believe that Bobby has a huge future when he fully matures and becomes stronger... and if I ride him well enough!
It's the end of the season now, and time to catch up with paperwork and home things. I have started to break in Tilly, who is a homebred 3 yr old filly, out of Kings Temptress by Chilli Morning (full sister to Bobby and Joey). She seems to be thoroughly enjoying the experience so far, and is being extremely well behaved.
I did a talk at Houghton County near Newcastle for sponsors Bucas Rugs, and have just done a photoshoot for Sidmouth Hospice Care of which I am a patron.
Mitsubishi have kindly changed my Shogun for a super new one...lucky me, what a treat, thank you so much Mitsubishi.
