Steph Croxford - preparing for Belgium

Sponsored rider Steph Croxford is getting ready for a busy couple of weeks as she heads off to Belgium on Saturday with her horse Mr Hyde. She caught up with us ahead of her preparation.

"I am heading off on Saturday to compete in two CDI 3* competitions out in Belgium. There are two events pretty much back to back so we have made the decision to try and get out there a bit earlier and give Mr Hyde time to get nice and settled ahead of the competition. Myself and my friend Helen are leaving on Saturday for Dover, where we will have an early ferry Sunday morning and hopefully arriving into Belgium at tea time. So we are slightly busy at the moment ensuring we have everything packed up we might need! Simon is having to stay at home and cope with four horses, two children, two guinea pigs, two dogs and five puppies whilst we head off, but he will be joining later on with the kids which is a nice thing to look forward to."

"Mr Hyde and I will be competing on Tuesday in the Grand Prix and then Wednesday in the Grand Prix Special. We then have a day off before it starts again! The second competition is in the same place, so I am hoping if we aren't quite settled for the first go we should definitely have got the hang of it by the second!"

"In preparation for the Belgium tests we headed out locally to Valeview where we achieved 72.5% in the Grand Prix, so he feels good and relaxed ahead of his travels. I am hoping we can pull out a confident test in Belgium which we will be happy with, obviously we can't control what the judges will be looking for but fingers crossed Valeview was a good omen for us."

"Alongside preparing with Mr Hyde I have also been working on my young horse Mr Benn who did his first affiliated competition last December. He has been going really well and has qualified for regionals in his medium competition and got his first points at Advance Medium at Valeview, so he is certainly heading in the right direction."

"Fingers crossed we will have some good news to report back with next time."
