Not long now until the season starts for Mary King

We caught up with Mary King as she was on route to William Fox Pitt's yard for show jumping training with Peter Murphy...

"We managed to get away for a lovely skiing holiday with the whole family, spending 2 days in Val D'isere with David's (Mary's husband) family, before driving to Megeve and spending a couple of days there - we had heaps of snow and powder so the skiing was brilliant! I do admit though it is nice to come down that final run and still be in one piece! Now we are very excited about the start of the event season this weekend!"

"The past few weeks have been spent getting the horses out and about, jumping at the Hand and Summerhouse, having lessons with Ferdi (Eilberg) and teaching some cross country clinics. We have been feeling very professional taking two lorries out with ten horses between us - now that Emily is out as well, and we both have 6 horses to ride - I am quite glad that I didn't sell my old lorry and it is still being put to good use!"

"We have been waiting all February for the ground to dry up so we could get the young horses out cross country schooling, it has finally happened so we went to Bicton this week and are planning to go to Stockland Lovell before the weekend. Then of course we have the first event of the season this weekend (2nd/3rd March) where we are taking 9 horses between us to do a range of classes! Fernhill Urco will be doing an Open Novice having been out of action for a year and a half and Cavalier Venture and MHS King Joules will also be doing an Open Novice before they run at Intermediate in a few weeks at Aldon, which is where Imperial Cavalier and Kings Temptress will have their first runs."

"I have also been busy with photo shoots for sponsors, including with Joules for my new collection of clothing which is now available! There are some lovely colours in there! I took a trip to BETA International which is an equestrian trade fair at the NEC in Birmingham, it was great to see sponsors and spend time with people. I am also very excited to have been chosen, along with Charlotte Dujardin, to be an ambassador for Mitsubishi and they have given both of us an Outlander to drive! It is a great sponsor for me and the brand are close to my heart due to their sponsorship with Badminton Horse Trials and the fact that the first year they sponsored the event I actually won it!"

"Emily has now passed her theory test and will very soon be on the road! She has also been given the ride on Brookleigh, a 3* horse that Clayton Fredericks rode. He has now moved to America so Emily has the ride on him until he is sold - he will run very nicely alongside Mr Hi Ho so she is very excited about that."

"We can't wait for the weekend - this is the first season Emily and I will be really working together and it is very exciting!"
