Mary tells us why she won't be changing anything this Olympic year...

We can't help but get a teeny bit excited everytime we speak to event rider and Olympic hopeful Mary King at the moment! This year has the potential to be very, very amazing indeed! "The horses all came back in to work at the beginning of January and have done their initial fittening road work," Mary says. "The young ones have started a little bit of schooling and jumping at home and we are off to their first indoor show jumping competition this weekend. These first few weeks of the year are spent with Jodie and Emma (Mary's grooms) transforming the horses from hairy mammouths into sleek event horses, so there has been lots of clipping and tidying going on!"

"I am off for the first dressage lessons of the year with Ferdi (Eilberg) next week and I will be taking my new ride, Chilli Morning. I am really excited to be riding him, he is a stallion I have admired for a long time and I even have two babies by him on the yard so it is like one big happy family now! He will be aimed for Badminton with Apache Sauce, then Kings Temptress and Imperial Cavalier, who are my strongest Olympic contenders, will be hopefully going to Chatsworth CIC*** the following weekend."

"I admit I am sneaking off for a holiday with my family in February half term," Mary tells us. "In The Saddle have promoted a 'holiday with Mary King' in the Ocavango Delta to do a safari ride - I am very excited. Then I will be back for the first lot of team training and it will be all systems go! I am feeling really positive about this year, people keep asking me what I am doing differently because it is an Olympic year, but I think that makes it even more important to stay consistent and not change anything! I will do the same as I do every year and that is produce the horses as best I can!"

"My new lorry is very nearly ready, it is being sprayed as we speak in the 'Mary King' green! And my old lorry is still for sale... just in case you know anyone!!"
