Mary King talks Badminton and Bramham

We caught up with Mary King to find out what it was that sadly unravelled her Badminton plans, the latest on King's Temptress and looking ahead to Bramham!

"This weekend we are off to Houghton International and it is Emily's turn! She has two horses here we will be coming back Sunday evening and heading straight off to Pontispool on Monday where I will be doing the Intermediate with Kings Choice and Emily is doing the Open Intermediate with Brookleigh and Zara as their last run before Bramham. Then it is full steam ahead to Bramham where Brookleigh will be doing the CCI*** and Zara will do the CIC***. After that, Freddie will have finished his GCSE's so we are planning a family holiday to go diving in Egypt."

"Going back to earlier this month, unfortunately Badminton did not go to plan. I got in the at the last minute having been on the wait list and Kings Temptress did a very nice dressage test which I was happy with. Sadly when I got her out on Saturday morning for a leg stretch she felt very lame on her left hind hoof. I got Liz Brown, the team vet to come and look at her and she said to go for a walk around the park and come back to see how she was. Unfortunately she was still lame so that was the end of our Badminton! Unfortunately it turns out that she has arthritic changes in that hoof which means she is now going to get fat and have babies - exactly what she wants to do!"

"It was then the turn of the 5 year olds, both of them are by Chilli Morning and out of Kings Temptress so it was very exciting to see Chilli win Badminton. That means that both of these boys' parents are Four Star winners! We went to Millfield to do their second BE100 and they were really good boys. Both of them did very good dressage tests and then had one down each in the show jumping - it was on a bit of a slope and it was hard for them to stay balanced. I then took it easy cross country as it was quite firm and they both spent most of the time looking at the fence judges and spectators! They were really good and I have high hopes for them for the future!"

"I was also lucky enough to go to the Chelsea Flower Show thanks to one of Emily's sponsors, Hi Ho Silver. It was amazing to see the effort that has been put in to each of the gardens and to see the displays was a wonderful experience!"
