Mary King and Mark Todd go full circle!

We caught up with Mary King to find out how the end of the eventing season has been going for her and Emily...

"I did my last event of the season at Bicton with the young horses, King Bill, King Robert II and Kings Ginger and they were all very good. It was their first Novice classes and all did good dressage scores, show jumped well and went clear cross country. I was really chuffed with their attitude and they were confident and happy at this level. Now they have finished and will have a holiday until they come in for next season in January."

"Since then it has been busy with Emily, starting with Blenheim where she had Charlemagne in the 8/9 Year Old Class. They did a very good dressage test and were one of the few to go clear showjumping. On to the cross country and they were having a great round, until Emily lost grip on her reins a bit going through the last water which caused a miscommunication at a narrow fence so they had a run out. It was disappointing but still positive for the future."

"Next stop it was Ballindenisk in Ireland. It is always different going to an Irish event - they are always so friendly and very relaxed and the course was interesting! It was full of big Irish hedges and mounds, and some unusual distances. We are so used to looking at strides but this was like a hunting course so it was a bit of a 'fly by the seat of your pants' course! Brookleigh did the CIC *** and lead the dressage - a few marks ahead of Mark Todd on his Olympic horse. They went clear cross country but just had three time penalties which meant that Mark Todd went ahead an after 8 faults showjumping she finished 2nd. Amazing result and ironic as my first ever three day event around 35 years ago I was pipped to first place by Mark Todd himself - who would have thought that Emily would have the same situation some years later?!"

"Now we are full steam ahead to Osberton with Dargun to do the CIC Young Horse ** and Zara to do the CCI** and then Emily is doing her first 4* in Pau with Brookleigh in a few weeks time which is very exciting!"
