Hitting the slopes with the King's

Emily King reflects on her time with Marcus Ehning in Germany and looks forward to 2016

Wow what a fantastic winter I've had! The two months I spent out in Germany with Marcus Ehning were two of the most interesting and informative months of my life. I was lucky enough to take Currant (Cooley Currency) out with me, so I could receive training on him as well as being trained as a rider. Marcus was a phenomenal teacher, but as well as the lessons, just day-to-day riding alongside him and watching him work his horses was fascinating (he is pretty much the Lionel Messi of the equestrian world!). Subconsciously you learn so much from watching top riders. All the little things which you aren’t necessarily taught from a young age can be the things which determine world class riders from the general professional field. So that was something which I will really treasure.

I am currently on a plane flying back from France having spent a wonderful week skiing with family and friends celebrating my 20th Birthday! It was great to fit in a little break before the season begins (mind you, with the amount of skiing we did - I feel like I'm now in need of a holiday!!).

The horses are all now back in work and getting geared up ready for the season ahead (VERY exciting!). January consists of their mandatory month of road work, up and down the Devon hills, which we feel is crucial to give them a solid base for their fitness to be built on. During Feb they will progressively start their schooling, jumping, fitness work and cross country schooling as well as attending BS Shows and World Class training days. On Tuesday I'm travelling to Pippa (Funnell)’s for my first ever Olympic Long List training day (I can't even begin to describe how excited I am!!) so that should be very interesting... I will be taking Brook, Dre, Charlie and Currant... And Mum as groom - hehee!!

So exciting times ahead and lots to look forward to! Fingers crossed for a memorable 2016!!
